As I See It - Our Community

5/8/2012

Bruce Randall
Manager, Business Development

We all read a wide variety of interesting articles on many different topics every day. However I came across one that I would like to share with you.  Rob LeLacheur of the St. Albert Leader wrote an editorial on May 3, 2012 that resonated with me.  Well done Rob.

My City: 'I have no idea’ won’t fly as events pick up

So why should we bother or worry about community events or festivals?  Well word of mouth advertising is still a key advertising and awareness tool.  Where do you think the remarks on twitter come from, or texting originates but from people communicating what they have seen and heard.

City of St. Albert Designates Land for Industrial Development

5/1/2012

Decision also made to pursue annexation of lands for industrial use

City has designated nearly 285 hectares (700 acres) of land for future light industrial development to attract more business and employment to St. Albert, help reduce the tax burden on residents and ensure long-term economic development in the city.

“Diversifying economic development is a priority for Council and today’s decision sends the message that St. Albert is actively working towards that goal,” says Mayor Nolan Crouse. “By designating future industrial lands, working with the development industry and by reviewing City’s land use and infrastructure, we are helping to create a friendlier and competitive environment for businesses, more jobs in the region and reducing the tax burden on residents.”

The 2012 Federal Budget is now presented, and what does this mean to St. Albert and our business community?

Bruce Randall
Manager, Business Development

No New taxes or tax increases
That says it all.

Budget Deficit nearing an end
As in any business you can’t run a deficit for long, and now the Federal government is focusing on a balanced budget.  There are still a couple of years before we get there but a surplus is targeted for 2015/16 with $3.4B.  In the interim still three years of deficits with in 2012/13 $21B, 2013/14 $10B and then almost a balanced budget in 2014/15 with a $1.3B deficit.
